Target Sets Up Shop

Target is trying out a new shop-in-shop approach to its stores. Collaborations with large name designers like Missoni and Jason Wu have attracted a lot of attention and customers. With past collaborations being so successful, the retailer thought they would try another approach to joining forces.

Goods from boutiques and small shops around the country were selected to be a part of the new store-in-store design. (Think the brand layout in Bloomies.) The goods vary from giftables to furniture and are meant to give the Target shopper a sense of discovery. Target picked small shops from outside of major cities such as LA and NY in order to give artists what they deemed a fair chance.

The first of “The Shops” will appear in May. They will stay around for six weeks before they are replaced by another shop. In anticipation of a very enthusiastic response Target says it has people working 'round the clock to make sure customers are happy and things go smoothly.

In addition to “The Shops,” Target will also experiment with adding small Apple product retailer shops to some of its stores.
