Prada's Opinion

Miuccia Prada is not exactly thrilled about an upcoming exhibit at the Met featuring her work. The exhibit is set to feature Prada’s designs partnered with those of Elsa Schiaparelli. Miuccia expressed to WWD that she did not understand the pairing. The two designers are very different. They were born in different centuries and focused on different avenues of design. While both women are of the same nationality and have created colorful and impactful designs, the similarities stop there. Ms. Prada began her career with simple nylon bags and eventually created an entire line of colorful and quirky products. Schiaparelli made her name with extravagant creations and tromp l’oeil designs.
While Ms. Prada expressed her frustrations, she does want to make clear that she is honored to be a part of the exhibit. The Prada people issued a statement after the news of Miuccia’s unhappiness hit the internet. A rep gave the following statement to Fashionista. “Mrs. Prada confirmed that she admires the total curatorial independence of the museum to the extent that they almost did not take into consideration her vision.”
